Deep dive

Detailed breakdown

Per-account pricing vs flat free

Publer is genuinely affordable. The Professional plan starts around $5 per month for one social account and adds roughly $4 per additional account, landing near $12 per month for three accounts billed annually. There is also a real free plan with basic limits, and a Business tier near $21 per month that unlocks analytics.

That model is great for a few accounts and starts to climb as the list grows. BrightBean Studio is $0 with unlimited accounts, or self-hosted on a small VPS. For a creator with three accounts, Publer is cheap and excellent. For an agency with thirty, the per-account math is where a free, unlimited tool changes the calculation.

Approvals, ownership, and the analytics paywall

Studio ships configurable approval workflows and passwordless magic-link client review in the free tier, and because it is AGPL-3.0 you can self-host it and own your data outright. Publer keeps analytics behind its Business tier and runs as closed-source SaaS on its own infrastructure.

If client approvals and data ownership are central to your work, Studio gives them away. If you mostly need fast solo or small-team publishing, Publer's polish is hard to fault.

Where Publer wins

Publer does several things Studio simply does not. It schedules to X/Twitter, which Studio leaves out because the API pricing would break our free promise. It has a built-in AI writing assistant, strong bulk scheduling with auto-schedule slots, native iOS and Android apps, and a usable free plan with no setup at all.

For a solo creator or small team that wants X support, AI help, and a polished hosted product on a small budget, Publer is an excellent choice and we are happy to say so. The trade tips toward Studio when account counts climb, when you need free approvals and client review, or when open-source and data ownership matter.

Publer is one of the best-value hosted schedulers, especially for a few accounts and for X support. Studio is free at any account count and open-source, but does not do X or AI writing. Pick on whether breadth-and-ownership or X-and-AI matters more to you.

Frequently asked questions

Is BrightBean Studio really free?+

Yes. Studio is AGPL-3.0 and the hosted version is free with no account, seat, or post caps. We fund it through BrightBean's YouTube intelligence API, not through Studio.

Does Studio support Twitter/X like Publer?+

No. X's API pricing starts around $100 per month just for posting access, which would break Studio's free promise. Publer supports X, so if that is essential, Publer is the better fit.

Does Studio have an AI writing assistant?+

No, and not on the near-term roadmap. Publer includes one. We use AI to write our own code, but we did not add an AI caption feature to justify a tier, because there is no tier.

Which is cheaper at scale?+

Studio, once you pass a few accounts. Publer's per-account model is excellent for one to three accounts but climbs as the list grows. Studio is $0 regardless of account count.

Can I self-host Studio?+

Yes. Docker Compose plus one-click deploys on Heroku, Render, or Railway. Django and HTMX, no Redis or Celery, so a small VPS runs many workspaces. Publer is hosted-only.

Free at any account count, and yours to keep.

Unlimited channels, users, and posts. Open-source. No per-account fees.
